Yes, flying fish (family Exocoetidae) are real, using large, wing-like pectoral fins to glide, not flap, through the air to evade predators. They can leap over 6 meters (20 feet) high and glide over 200 meters (650 feet) at speeds exceeding 56 km/h (35 mph).
